Cooling & Heating Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are a key source of energy for our bodies. We consume many carbohydrates so it is very important for us to understand the consequences of what we choose to eat here.

What is carbohydrate?
Carbohydrates are not only bread and grains, as some people might think, but also include types of sugars and fiber as well.

When eating, try to go for unprocessed or minimally processed carbohydrates. They are healthier options. As well, keep your carbohydrate intake balanced based on your body’s temperature for your best health. Below is the list of heating-cooling list to help keep you balanced with your carbohydrates:

Heating Carbohydrates
- Sticky rice, red yeast rice, purple rice, black rice
- Wheat, barley, breads, pasta noodle and pastries
- Taro, potato, sweet potato, banana
- Very sweet foods and drinks
- Low nutrition foods (junk foods) like chips and instant noodles

Cooling carbohydrates
- White rice, brown rice, oats
- Cane sugar, sugarcane syrup, honey
- White rice noodle (without oil), jelly noodles
- Corn, eastern banana (Namwa banana)
